Wednesday night is our usual training night and tonight's topic was Wildland Firefighting, the evening began with a classroom portion which is a review of safety, procedures and techniques we use to combat brush and woods fires. Then at 19:31 Hours the company was alerted to the 200 Block of N Sandy Hill Rd for a large controlled burn that needed extinguished. Crews responded and set up a portable monitor for one pile and a handline for another. While the piles were being extinguished learning kept going with the practical portion where the crews cut line and learned about progressive hose lays that we use. This was just done in a more realistic setting.
