Chester County Fire Chief's Approve Red Tape Policy

After a majority vote by the chief's that were present at the meeting last night, the Red Tape policy which was passed on May 1st is in effect. What does this mean to the firefighters on the incident scene, the policy adopted by them is listed below to describe exactly what the Red Tape will do for firefighter safety.

POLICY FOR THE USE OF RED DANGER TAPE

1. The policy for the use of the Red Danger Tape was adopted May 1 2008 for use by the Emergency Services of Chester County (i.e. Fire, Ambulance and Police) and will be recognized at all emergency scenes.

2. The Red Danger tape will be used for emergency personnel only and will not be used as a "Fire Line" or "Caution" barrier as the yellow tape is now used for civilian use.

3. The Red Danger Tape will be used at any scene to identify and guard against any hazard (i.e. collapse zone, electrical hazard, fall hazard, etc.) which may cause injury or death to an emergency services provider.

4. Once the Red Danger Tape is in place, the OIC will be notified, the restricted area will be monitored and the tape will not be removed until the area is deemed safe by the OIC.

PLEASE keep an eye out if you see this danger tape and exercise extreme caution. At no time should you pass through an area marked with Red DANGER tape unless authorized by the Incident OIC.
