By The "35" Watchdesk
August 10, 2013

At right around 2 pm today the Company was dispatched along with Station 49, (East Brandywine), Engine 48 (Glenmoore), Ambulance 144 and Medic 93 to the intersection of Cedar Knoll Rd and Rt. 82 in West Brandywine Twp.

Deputy 49 (Rees) arrived first on the scene and established Rt. 82 Command reporting a 2 vehicle accident with 2 trapped in an overturned SUV on its side. Engine 491 and Rescue 35 arrived moments apart and the crews began to work on the trapped occupants. 2 additional BLS units were requested due to the number of patients and Ambulance 44(Westwood) along with Ambulance 41-2 (Coatesville).

Ambulance 44 arrived and took the patient from one of the vehicles while the 144 crew assisted with care of the trapped victims. Crews from 49, 48 and 35 worked together to cut the driver's side A, B & C Posts to do a roof flap to provide room for the occupants to be removed. Tools from both units worked in unison to make the extrication time of both patients in 24 minutes from arrival.

This extrication was one of a challenge as the vehicle came to rest right up against the bank with the other vehicle into the underside of the overturned vehicle.

Once both patients were removed they were transferred to a local trauma center to be treated for their injuries. Crews then worked together to restore the equipment from the apparatus and put the units back together, once complete the 35 fire units were released by Command. Great job by all those involved...

Wagontown wishes to extend our sympathy for the injured and wish them a speedy recovery.
